Leinenkugel's Canoes for a Cause
Pure, clean water has always been an important part of our brewing heritage. Back in 1867, Jacob Leinenkugel founded our brewery on the Big Eddy spring, once dubbed the purest water in the world.
In more than 140 years since then, the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company has celebrated clean water and the great outdoors. Both at home in Wisconsin’s Northwoods and in our friends’ back yards, we’ve helped with improving and building appreciation for water resources.
Our connection to water quality and our love of the outdoors is at the core of what we do. And, we share this value with 280,000 of Leinie’s fans in the Upper Midwest and around the country.
That’s why we’re introducing Leinenkugel’s Canoes for a Cause. It’s our way of putting a name on all of the things we’ve done to help improve and beautify the wonderful water resources we share, and it’s our invitation to you to join us as we continue our efforts.
Minnesota & Wisconsin
At The Brewery:
At home, we’ve installed a new pasteurizer at the brewery to reduce water usage and save up to 20 million gallons of water each year.
In Minnesota:
In the Twin Cities, Team Leinie’s worked alongside volunteers to clean up debris in and around Minnehaha Creek.
In Wisconsin:
When a breach drained Lake Delton in 2008, we got involved in its restoration by raising funds and restocking the lake with nine million minnows.
Leinie’s continues to invest in the development of wetlands and buffer zones around tributaries to Little Lake Wissota to keep sediment and phosphorus run-off form entering the lake.
Illinois
Leinenkugel’s has always had a special connection to the Chicagoland area. It was our first major market outside of Wisconsin, and today, thousands of Leinie’s fans call Chicago home. Whether you’re in the heart of downtown, or in the suburbs, we know how much Chicagoans value their river.
That’s why our first official Canoes for a Cause event was in Chicago this year. On May 14th 2011, we joined the Friends of the Chicago River for their 19th Annual Chicago River Day, where we helped clear away debris from the river’s edge and surrounding park areas.
This July 9th, Leinie’s will show our continued appreciation for this great resource by hosting a canoe float down the Chicago River, with a special celebration afterwards.
